I goofed.. How do I change a project’s video aspect ratio?
Ok, I goofed.. I set my project up as 4:3 (CS3 by the way) but should have set it up as 16:9. I’ve done a lot of editing including some video correction.
I read that once a project’s settings are set, you can’t change them. So, is there a way for me to create a new project and import everything I’ve done (multiple timelines, etc..) I tried exporting EDL’s and it looked like it was going to work for the most part but then when I tried to relink the offline files I had problems finding them – I think because most of the stuff was multi-cam edits and the names of the clips are similar..
I looked at some export settings, and it looks like I could export to avi and change the setting but my concern is that the whole thing (in two parts at the moment) is an hour and a half.. I’m worried about the audio getting out of synch with the video as I’ve had problems with in the past (with 6.5). I guess I’ll try that while I wait for some help. Hopefully, if it works and the audio doesn’t fall out of synch I won’t loose much video quality in the export..

Just create a new project with the correct aspect ratio settings, and then IMPORT the other project into it. Then, drag the old timelines into one of the new (correct) timelines. You will have to resize/crop your old timelines.

Hey all,
I just wanted to follow up – just so someone coming along later will know for sure how this turned out..I was indeed able to import the whole project. Doing so alerted me to the fact that one of my batch captures was done wrong – or soemthing – the footage was still letterboxed (well, not exactly, it was simply scaled down with black all around it.) So I was able to make these offline, then recapture and all was well!
Thanks so much for the help! Going from 6.5 to CS3 while going from Hi-8 to DV is quite a lot to deal with all at once – but boy! Too bad I didn’t make the move earlier!
