OK, this one is is really getting to me. Help me, I need to get some work done here! Melted the processors on my G4 dual gig (a whole other story) so I just got a new G5 dual 2.7 with 1.5 gigs of ram. Upgraded to FCP 5.0 and now I can not scrub footage on the timeline or play it for that matter. I have turned off unlimited RT and qued down the playback quality, made sure the audio playback is at a low enouigh setting as to not bog down system. FCP hangs (spinning beach ball of fun) when I attempt to scrub or play footage that I placed on the timeline. Soooooo…. I even reinstalled FCP, deleted the prefs, zapped pram, and all the other fun mac tricks in an attempt to fix said problem. NO LUCK! FYI, I sometimes get the dropped frames warning after the beach ball stops spinning when I try to play foootage.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What kind of drives are you using? I was capturing / editing with FCP 5 last night with surprising responsiveness. Certainly a LOT faster than FCP 4.5 was and scrubbing wasn’t a problem.

My system is a Dual 2.0 with the ATI X800xt, Kona 2 and the Medea FCR2X Fibre Channel array.

I had a similar problem but with FCP4 on a G4. When I tried srubbing the image would stay still in the canvas and playback was in jumps.

But solved the painful problem. TRY THIS.

1.Make sure that your canvas and viewer are ‘fit to window’ aspect & not on magnification. On the top left corners of each preview you will find 3 tabs. Click the first and select ‘fit to window’.

2.Check your playhead sync under ‘View’ then’Playhead Sync’. You got 4 options: ‘Off’, ‘Follow’ ‘Open’, ‘Gang’. I cant remember which one is the appropraite one. Play around/check user manual.

    3. If you have a cam connected check the settings under ‘View’ then ‘External Video’

    4. Keep that unlimited RT off.

    5. Never give up!

    G.Luck.
