When I drag an mp3 onto an audio track it doesn’t stick, just disappears. I thought I read that you can use mp3’s in v.14. When I import it in the media section it plays fine. I just can’t drag it onto an audio track. What’s up with that?

Will it insert or overwrite edit to a track? Is the mp3 stereo or mono and does the track type match? Might just be a drag & drop bug. Also I assume you are on 14 release not any of the betas.

Right, the v. 14 release. I tried dragging onto track 2 below the audio of my video clip, I get the red circle with the slash through it. I tried using the right click menu to place it on the timeline. No go. It’s a stereo mp3 I got from a royalty free website. I even tried converting it to a 48k wav as suggested somewhere else. Still no luck.

Only thing I can think of is that the bit depth might be other than 16 or 24 bit. In converting to 48khz wav can you set the bit depth to 16 or 24. If it is 32 bit or some weird floating point that might explain it.

ok so it has to be 16 or 24 bit, not 32? Funny quirks in this world class NLE, if you ask me. I’ll convert to 16 and see what happens. I’ll report back. Thanks for responding!

Yep, that did it! Changed bit depth to 16 (24 probably would have worked too) and now I can place it on an audio track. Thanks again!

Most NLE’s stick to the basics of 16/24 bit & 44.1/48khz. Beyond that there be dragons.

Interestingly only in this latest release has Resolve been able to deal with camera files using the Dolby AC3 codec for audio. With the integration of Fairlight, you can expect the audio handling in Resolve to improve.
