I am trying to stroke a path but the option is greyed out.

Well, works fine here.
One has to make a selection with either one of the
selection tools or maybe select an existing path with
the magic wand tool.

Even if one selects all with the move tool everything
gets the choosen stroke colour.

thanks for the reply. I figured it out. It was because I had set it up to draw a shape layer rather than create a work path. Thanks,
