I am trying to add a pDF file to the canvas
I am trying to add a pdf file to the canvas per the book. It should be giving me a pull down window to make a selection but it is not. Please help. What am I doing wrong?

Why should it give you a pull-down menu? You only get a drop menu if you are bringing in a multi-layer .PSD (Photoshop file), not a PDF.
