I am stupid. 10GbE copper uses Cat 5e
So I just realized that the process to get us to 10Gbe is a lot less complicated than I thought.
Am I right on this? If we already have fast storage feeding 1GbE using a Small-Tree switch, we can theoretically replace that with this netgear switch:

you will find that unless you are running 25′ or under, you will get in trouble with hi bandwidth signals running at 300MB/sec. If you are going to proceed with the 10g switch, do yourself a favor, and spend a couple of bucks more and get some Cat6 cables. Good up to 55 meters.
