Hello all, Vegas newbie here and I am an ex-Premiere gal who upgraded to HDV so I have a few questions… If anyone can please help I’ll be forever grateful!

What is with the rendering? In premier – if something needed a render there was a lovely red line and when you hit enter the red line went away and became a pretty green line. What is with the ‘pre-rendering’ etc etc? Is this the same as a typical rnder in Premiere? If I do a draft quality (so my computer doesn’t jitter and freak out) will it affect the final render? Is there not an easier way? Do I need to render each fade/speed change etc as per premier? Why can it not be easier… am I simply having transitional hiccups?

Having said this, I do rather like Vegas, I just want it to be my friend… I’ll likely be back.

    Thanks in advance!

oh, and is there really NO batch capture for HDV… REALLY???

[dabear247] “What is with the rendering?”

Anytime video is “changed”, it has to be rendered. Vegas preview all changes without the need for rendering, though. However, depending on the effect used and the processor and other factors, it may not be able to keep up will will reduce the framerate. That’s also why there’s various preview quality settings as well.

If you must have full frame, you could do a pre-render which is basically what you’re describing in Premier. You could also do a “RAM” render which will do a small section just for preview purposes.

[dabear247] “and is there really NO batch capture for HDV… REALLY???”

Do you know of any app that batch captures HDV at this time? Batch capturing HDV is problematic because of the GOP structure.
