[Eric Jurgenson] “In a direct A-B comparison, there is significantly more detail in the V1U images as compared to the HVX200.”

And if detail was the only factor, I guess that would make sense. Unfortunately there are a lot of other things to consider… things where the Sony doesn’t fare as well…

[Noah Kadner] “How’s it going? Did you re-certify btw? “

No I didn’t. Apple made a huge mistake and certified someone in my market with no video experience and someone who does not even work in video production (two of the requirements). He is an OS X and networking specialist. Apple has admitted it’s mistake and has plugged the loophole that let him in, and they were trying to figure out how to de-certify him, but have not as of yet. Several of our most experienced instructors did not re-certify. Right now he is the only one certified for FCP 6, but no one wants to hire his graduates. No one else has bothered out of protest. Apple really screwed the pooch on this one…

[Noah Kadner] “Yup it’s long gop and another new proprietary Sony format. But if there were a camera intended from the Sony side to compare to the HVX that would be it. Not saying it would win the comparison of course. :)”

    exactly…

[Eric Jurgenson] “If you want a higher resolution picture, go for the V1U. The HVX200 has a limiting resolution of only 500 lines. The V1U is around 800 lines. The upcoming EX1 is over 1000 lines. In a direct A-B comparison, there is significantly more detail in the V1U images as compared to the HVX200.”

My new Sony F330 has got megapixel block,HD recording and latest digital processing..yet my old 7 year Pana 910 has got better SD picture then HD picture from Sony XDCAM HD …..explain why.
All the lines and numbers really mean nothing if at the end of the day picture does not look right.
May I add here that Pana 910 has got better pictures then HPX-500…….only new Pnasonic 2000 is better camera then my old 910. The only explanation for this i have is:
Broadcast Cameras are far superior then INDUSTRIAL ones.
I will have a look at Sony EX in 2 weeks..we will see.

HD cameras suffer somewhat in SD mode because the image enhancement they apply is out of the SD bandwidth. SD cameras, of course, apply in-band enhancement, and tend to look “crisper” in SD. That’s why I’m not selling my Betacam yet.

Perhaps some high-end HD cameras are capable of applying in-band enhancement in SD mode, but none I’ve seen – including the 330, I believe.
