    Hi,

We are going to match some footage 3d cgi renders with footage shot on the panasoninc HVX200 and are trying to find the relative lens sizes from a standard 35mm kit lenses and work out a formula for conversion.

eg. 50mm lens on a 35mm gate or chip camera is your standard so what is that lens equivalent on the panasonic assuming the chip is 8.466mm.

I have done some equations but not quite right.
first i calculated a factor of 4.13 but this is only right in 3d programs and not actually on the lens.
I think now it may be x7.7.
Anyone got any experience on working these things out ot know the exact figures.

    Cheers
    Steveo

The chip is nowhere near 8.466mm. Chip sizes are referred to as “types”, so it’s a 1/3″ type CCD, but it doesn’t measure anywhere near 1/3″. No 1/3″ chip measures anywhere near 1/3″. No 1/2″ chip is 1/2″, and no 2/3″ chip is 2/3″ either.

The actual chip size isn’t a published spec, but I believe it’s in the ballpark of about 5.25mm x 2.95mm.
