Posted by Dan Appel on April 11, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Have a project that I’d like to shoot with the HVX200 on P2 cards (downloading to MacBook on set). Will probably shoot approx 20 hours total.

The rub: I need to deliver footage to BOTH my Mac HIGH DEF FCP5 edit bay AND to my client who will need to import the footage into a STANDARD DEF PC-based Avid system.

I intend to cut my footage DVCPROHD throughout offline and then output to HDCAM and also downconvert to letterboxed SD.

So my question is: Is there a (simple/user-friendly) way to shoot on this camera and deliver to BOTH needs — Mac-based FCP HD and PC-based Avid SD?

I pretty much have the FCP portion figured out (via DR Group, thankyouverymuch), but the Avid part is a mystery and my client will K-I-L-L me if there’s an issue with the firewire drives I send them with raw footage/files.

    Help? Much appreciated…

Forgot to mention I will want to shoot 24p for Cine look.

And everything is going to cable broadcast air (SD) with one small aspect going to HD cable.

Well you didn’t specify what format of SD the Avid will require. Beta SP, Digibeta, MiniDV?????? IF it’s just a mini dv tape they require, the simple and most efficient way would be to shoot HD to P2 cards and then dub them to mini dv tape in camera prior to re-formatting the cards. If it’s Digibeta or Beta SP, then you would have to load the footage into an FCP timeline and output to tape using a capture card or I/O from AJA or Black Magic card.

    Sorry if I wasn’t clear…

I want to deliver digital raw footage (mxf or other) to Avid client — just as I’m delivering the digital files to my FCP edit.

The Avid client will be outputting to Digibeta.

My FCP edit will be outputting to HDCAM and Digibeta.

If the Avid isn’t equipped to handle the DVCPro HD MXF files, then you cant deliver them on a hard drive. They may need to upgrade the system or you will have to have the files downconverted to an SD format at a post house, that their avid will handle.
