Does anyone have any tried and true camera settings for shooting at night. Or suggestions where to start. I am videotaping a machine gun firing at night with a tracer rounds. I imagine a tracer round would be as bright as cars on a highway distance 1/4 mile or a flashlight from about 100 feet.

I imagine it would greatly depend on the amount of light you plan to bring with you. If you bring none, you’ll just have black with the tracers appearing every so often. You can always drop your shutter way down, open up and shoot with gain. But you’ll wind up with a fair amount of noise in your picture. I’d shoot it at dusk or dawn instead and color correct in post.
