HVX 200 & miniDV footage
How would you rate footage shot on miniDV using the HVX200? Obviously it’s a step down from using P2. (I don’t have access to the 200.)
I need a new camera. Unfortunately, my computer isn’t ready for HD and for fininacial reasons, I’ll have to make that acquisition later. But in the meantime, I need a new camera. I’ll continue shooting SD (my corporate clients aren’t asking for HD yet anyway).
So, how would you rate the HVX200 miniDV look? As good as ____; better than ______; ???? Just looking for general feedback. Thanks.

It’s great- you are getting more quality than you would from a regular DV camera. In standard definition you also have the option to shoot to DVCPRO50 which is Digibeta level of quality and compression. Also any current model Mac or PC is capable of cutting DVCPROHD- it’s a very easy to work with codec.

Thanks, Noah. I’m currently using Premiere Pro 1.5. I’ll upgrade to CS3 (or CS4 if this takes longer than I think). I know CS3 supports P2. Current users report good results.

Noah, will I be able to capture HVX-200 miniDV footage from any DV-deck (Sony DSR-25, for instance) or will I have to use the camera?

Sure if you record to tape it’s standard NTSC DV.
