Shane, you do not need an additional card unless you have the smallest SD card, like 8MBs and it still might fit with the scene files. I have a powerpoint presentation on my SD card that I also have scene files on. The camera only looks at the stuff that is germaine to the function you are asking it to do.

My cameras shows: Version 2.03-00-0.00
on the Pany site is see a download for 4.10-00-0.00
Is 4.10-00-0.00 the most current?
oh, and is Ernie Matthews still around Panasonic Broadcast?
