The usual way to do it is to create a skeleton from joints and weight the skeleton to the model. If you just want to create static poses you don’t have to worry about IK rigging.

Actually, I’m not just going to be making static poses; I want to make an animation of the human moving throughout a scene. So, what is IK rigging?

IK stands for inverse kinematics. What it does, in a nutshell, is set up a relationship between a heirarchy of bones, or joints, so that you can move a hand or foot and pull the arm or leg with it. As mentioned this is much too big a subject to explain adequately in a forum post. I suggest you do a search for IK/rigging tutorials. You’ll probably find some at C4DCafe. There are some decent ones at Cineversity.com, but that’s a paid subscription service. For background knowledge you may also want to look at tutorials from other software as the concepts are generally the same.
