  • huffyuv multi thread 1.0 does not work with Sony Vegas 9c

    Greetings.

This is my first time using this forum. I have searched around for plenty of other problems and my problems have

been solved. I really appreciate this help-forum!

Ok, lets get to the point:

    I have Win 7 64-bit
    I have admin rights
I have Sony Vegas 9.0c (staying to this version due to the future updates slows down my PC)
I have installed huffyuv multithread codec.
I used the following install approach (taken from another forum):

This is how to install HuffYUV on Windows Vista 64 or Windows 7 64:

    1. Download HuffYUV from somewhere -- preferably somewhere reliable, such as this site -- and then unzip/unrar

    it to your C:\ drive*.
    2. Open up a command prompt (DOS box), while logged in with a user account that has administrative privileges.
    * If you're not sure what that means, then let's try this explanation:
    1. Go to the Start menu, and go to Run or the Run box to the left of the power button (where you

shut down or sleep your computer).
    2. Type in cmd and then press ctrl+shift (either side of keyboard is fine, left or right) and then

press enter while still holding ctrl+shift. Don't press enter by itself or click OK.
    3. If you've done it correctly, then the little black DOS box will say "Administrator: Command

    Prompt" in the on-screen text.
    3. Assuming your copy of Windows was installed with the standard method (C:\Windows), navigate to the SysWOW64

    folder.
    * In the little black DOS box, type cd c:\windows\syswow64 and then press enter.
    4. Again, in the DOS box, type rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\huffyuv.inf and

press enter. Pay close attention to the spacing (or lack thereof). And that's a "zero" in the last half of the

command, not the letter "O". There's no space around that comma. What you type has to match perfectly.
    * If there are no error messages, then it has installed correctly.
    * If there was an error, then you probably were not installing it with administrator privileges enabled.

    Re-read Step 1!

That's all you have to do.

It was installed successfully and I was able to compress videos in 32-bit VirtualDub using the huffyuv MT v1.0 successfully.

However, when I try to open the videos in Vegas, it says the “stream cannot be determined: hvmt” – probably referring to the FourCC.

When I compress another clean copy with the ordinary 32-bit huffyuv codec, it works with no problems.

So, finally. My question is – won’t Vegas accept huffyuv MT? If if WILL – what have I done wrong?

    PS:

Besides, since its more or less about the same issue – I have tried to use 32-bit huffyuv, 64-bit huffyuv and MT-huffyuv codecs – using the cmd install approach.

ONLY 32-bit and MT show up in VirtualDub. 64-bit seems to not work or install properly. I have re-checked this by using mmviewer to check codecs in ffdshow – 64 and 32 bit use the same place in the list. But when I install 64 bit, its information is blank, when I install 32-bit, information is fine.

I would like to know if I have installed 64-bit wrongly, or if it is bugged, or even obsolete. In the end, is there any reason to use 64-bit when 32-bit version works just fine?

And to the very end…if I may ask.. 🙂 Have any of you experienced any time difference in using 32-bit or MT huffyuv? On my PC, which I KNOW has multi threading (Core I7), it seems to use more or less same amount of time.

Hope this hasn’t been too much to digest, please be free to ask any questions. I’m bogged down in a project which I must release tomorrow…and the vital videos wont show up in Vegas when using multi thread. Basically I want to know if huffyuv MT codec can be used in Vegas, why 64-bit huffyuv doesn’t seem to work – and finally if any of these two codecs are recommended to use at all – else I will stay to the working 32 bit codec!

    Thanks in advance!

Bump. Today is the deadline. I have successfully managed to convert using 32-bit huffyuv non MT, but I would really appreciate answers on my questions regarding Vegas’ compatibility with huffyuv MT, 64-bit huffyuv version and potentially a better lossless codec than Huffyuv…something like Logarith??

I had similar fun with that codec and 64-bit windows. I can’t remember now what I ended up doing to be able to use the clips I’d encoded previously so that’s probably not much help!

However I did switch over to using Lagarith and I’ve had no problems at all with the 64-bit versions of virtualDub and Vegas using that.

Thank you so much for the answer!

Yes I hoped Logartih would be the best solution to all the problems and weird things with huffyuv – plus they say its faster on multi core and compresses better, cant ask for much more really!

I will test Logarith out before I make any more conclusions.

Again, thanks for you answer. Any help even the small ones are always appreciated.
