We have the HPX2000P Boradcast cameras and we are shooting DVCPRO-HD.
I have been told some conflicting info, so I thought I’d ask here.

If we shoot 1080i (1260×1080) is it a true 1080 resolution? I have been told that the camera shoots 720 and then upconverts when recorded as 1080. This seesm incorrect to me.

    Any real answers?

Boradcasts? Is that what they have on TV in Kazakhstan? 🙂

There’s a wealth of info about this out on the net. Here’s a good backgrounder:

Bottom line is yes and no. Most folks prefer 720p because you get variable framerates, 24pN editing, easy upres to 1080 and a chocolate on your pillow at night.

My spelling/typing is as bad as your reading… add an extra ‘0’ on the end. I need the HPX2000 not HVX200.

I think I have my answer as the chip size is only 960×720.

The idea is about the same anyway. Functionally it is 1080p. Debatable whether the quality is going to be identical to 1080 native chips. That’s up to you and your producers.

This camera has native 720 chipset similar to the varicam (Total: 1370 (H) x 744 (W), Active: 1280 (H) x 720 (W)) and it pixel shifts up for 1080. I think the 1080 images from it look great…

960×720 is the way it records to DVCPROHD 720 – like the Varicam.
1280×1080 is the way it records to DVCPROHD 1080 – like the HDX900. This is just the way DVCPROHD works… Same with the HVX200.

Of course, you can get the new Intra (pro) board, and that will allow you to have 1280×720 (720) or 1440×1080 or 1920×1080 recording with the 264 codec. Looking forward to trying it – although I hear you need quite a system to process these files.

The 2000 (and HPM100) got it’s firmware last week – 16/32 gig compatibility, and you have pN modes in 720 now as well.
