I have a strange work-flow as a result of a constrained budget and want to make sure I am going about this the right way.

We are shooting some award-show acceptance speeches in 1080p/29.97 DVCPro HD on the HPX170 (p2) but the client requires a tape delivery for archive and DVCPro HD files for editing. We wanted to go with the Sony F900 and shoot 1080p/29.97 on HDCAM and then just compress in the system, but the budget wouldn’t allow for it so we convinced that we could shoot their native final format on the cheap with the camera we owned and rent a deck to output to tape for their archives.

We were looking at the DVCPro 1700 deck but it does not record 1080p at all – only 1080i and 720p. Now, we are looking to the Sony HDWF500 (as DVCPro HD is not necessarily the only tape format they’ll take) and I wanted to see if this makes the most sense? They will then get their desired footage in their desired format AND a 1080p/29.97 on tape.

Let me know if this makes sense or if anyone has any better ideas/workflows. The shoot/transfer is tomorrow.

    Thanks!
