Up until now, we have shot SD(625/25i) using our HPX-500 (using DVCPro50 codec).

Now it’s time to go HD. We have four P2 16 GB cards, and in DV50, they can hold 136 mins of video.

Reading the manual, it seems that switching to 720/25pN would allow us to have the same capacity as with DV50.

The manual also suggests shooting in 720p/25pN for commercials and TV programs. We do mostly industry-level infograms.

We edit on Final Cut Studio 3.

What format do you guys suggest we use, that works well with FCP?

ANY HD flavor from that camera works fine for FCP.

Really, don’t over think it and don’t worry about it.
Shoot 720 for awhile to save space. Buy some larger P2 Cards down the road and shoot more 1080 for a slight quality bump.
But if the end product is always viewed in SD, it won’t matter 720 or 1080.
