How would i do this with text?

There is no automated method to do this in VegasPro. If there is, I’ve not yet come across it. Consequently, the trouble is that syncing Visuals to Audio in the way we are looking at here has to be done Manually.

I have explored s/w that has created Markers to the Beat of a drum or bass being plucked, which has had a modicum of success, but the spoken word? No so much. But there could be Scripting Tools that could do it?

So, how would I go about it?

1) I’d Type the V/O in Word.

2) Record the V/O directly into VP.

3) Having the speech on a Track, I’d Add a Text Generator that would Span the whole V/O.

4) Play the Audio, at say 1/4 Speed, and Tap the M key to add a Marker at each new word or Phrase. This gives the option to know where my Sync Markers have to be and dictate alignment for 5) below. (ughhh…)

5) Having TextGen open and the Sync Cursor set ON, I’d play the Timeline to the First Marker, and then I’d either Copy directly from Word OR Type in directly into the TextGen. Once I’d filled-in a line of Text I’d SPLIT the TextGen in 3) above and insert a new TextGen that would Span the remainder of the V/O. Now repeat this 5) until finish.

As it’s not automated, yeah, it’s a truly, butt-ugly workflow. If others have the all important Audio to Text Synching, as an automated Script, please shout out. As I say, in the past, I’ve tried at least two offerings.

I’d be tempted to research another package to do this.

You can achieve the text effect by using the Vegas Pro ProType Titler which has a “type on” effect that you can set to words instead of characters and it will display the sentence one word at a time. (hint: search YouTube for “vegas protype titler type on effect”)

Thank you. Till now i had been creating around 20-30 layers and overlaying words on one another to get it to work. Manually moving stuff
around the screen for every word is so time consuming. Thanks.

That is correct, but Hunter wants the Text to be Synched to the V/O. When a Word is Spoken that Word would appear. I’m not aware that PTT can do this? Cool if it can.

I dunno if there is a super easy way to do that. I’ve never really used the pro type titler like john said. But one somewhat clumsy way to do it. And this probably not something you’d want to do for a long video clip but you can animate a single text event. I know you can do it with legacy text, not sure with the regular text. Create a legacy text event. Click the animate button at the bottom sometimes it might be hidden in the window. Write something for the first keyframe. Get to the next point in the timeline where you want the text to change and type in that change. Now I’m not sure how key framing works in legacy text because it’s weird so in order to make it work the way you want it to easily right click on the key frames and change them to ‘hold’ so you don’t have to deal with any weirdness about how one text transitions to the next. The nice way about doing it this way is you can do it all in a single event/text media/whatever you call it.
