How to vibrate and embolden text for short duration?

The best way would be to use a plug-in like NewBlue Motion Effects Earthquake. Otherwise you could keyframe the motion yourself but it would be tedious.

The Motion Effects plugin looks like the right one. Keyframing the effect would test my patience.

What about emboldening the text in sync with the vibration? I played around the the “Min and Max” FX but found it a little tough to control. Any thoughts?

Do you mean change the size to make it look bolder? Now you’re getting into the realm of Boris Continuum Complete or Boris RED. With those plug-ins you can control the jitter of the text for the shake, and then keyframe size, or any number of other parameters.

If you watch the replay of my Boris FX webinar: Custom Effects and Titles with Boris RED 5 at about 24:00 you can watch how I use jitter to make the letters shake along with the object they are tracking. (I show the motion tracking at 22:00 if you are interested in that)

John, I watched the webinar segment you had referenced. An awesome effect (wish Boris plugins were in the budget!), but not what I was looking for. It’s much simpler.

I want to go from a regular font for chosen text to a heavy bold look of the same font but not in an instantaneous (on/off) way. The effect would show the words quickly and linearly morph from standard to heavy bold and back to standard, all within less than a second.

Hope this is clearer.

Yea, that’s what I meant by keyframing the size. With Boris text you can make if grow in any dimension and make big fat letters that grow smoothly.

Hey, what you could do using just Sony Text is to keyframe the Scaling, Tracking, and Leading. This way you could scale the text bigger, but make the tracking and leading smaller so they don’t move out of place. This might get close to what you are looking for.
