  • How to upload SONY HANDYCAM SR11 into Final Cut Pro?

Posted by Ed Goldberg on July 4, 2008 at 12:39 am

I got a Sony HANDYCAM HDR-SR11 camcorder with USB connection to an iMac running OS X 10.4.11. I’ve got iMovie 08 and Final Cut Pro. iMovie recognizes the camcorder, but I cant get Final cut Pro to do the same. Can someone help me be able to upload videos into Final Cut Pro? Please email me with suggestions ed***********@***oo.com Thank you in advance!

The specs I saw for this on the BestBuy website (sony was down??) showed IEEE 1394 which is Firewire by another name. Look for THAT connection. Probably will be a smaller version than what you put into your computer — 6 pin verses 4 pin.

But use that and FCP’s Log and Transfer function.

    See if that works.

THe Sony sr11 does not have firewire, but rather a USB connector only

You are correct – sorry… Best Buy page was wrong. Finally got to sony’s page:

    https://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=101551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665291500

    Anyway —

You have a few options. Get a card for your computer so you can send hdmi into it. Expensive option.

What format are the files? Can you drag them via usb to an scratch drive and then you’ll need to convert them to prores or avchd type format.

Sorry — I’m no help. This camera is not for FCP. Or at least they didn’t make it very easy to use with FCP.
