I put the original music from the CD or other recording in audio tracks 1 and 2.

Then the field recorded audio in tracks 3 – 6.

Turn on the Audio Waveforms and lineup by eye and ear. When you play the audio, if it’s out of sync, you slide the shot forward and back 1 frame at a time until it’s in sync.

If the sound is still slightly odd when lined up, check in the the Final Cut help under “subfame editing” to get even closer.

Sorry, search help on “subframe” only. In FCP 5, it is page II-311.

    Steven –

Can you slip and move frames by a subframe amount? – I thought subframe was limited to keyframing.

If you zoom in on the subframe, move the indicator around, and set an in mark, the audio shifts.

I’ve used this in Final Cut 6 when syncing a motion picture telecine with direct to hard drive sound.
