How to stop new comps from opening up
Hey cows, this is an annoying enough problem for me to make a post asking for help. Every time I create a new comp from a clip or graphic in the project bin it automatically opens up as a new tab in my timeline and shows up in my viewer. This is annoying because most of the time all I want to do is make a new comp to drag directly into the current comp timeline, and not for it to open up. Is there any preferences button I’m missing so that it doesn’t happen? Or should I change my workflow to add the new graphic to the timeline first and then precomp once it has been laid in?

What you are doing is essentially making a pre-comp. Drag the footage into your curent comp, select the layer and press “cntl+shift+c”, and make sure ‘open comp in new window’ isn’t checked.
