  • How to speed up render previews?

Im a novice to Premiere and finding the render previews painfully slow.

Im trying to edit a 45 second sequence from about 20mins of footage (PAL widescreen 720×546 in a .mov file). Most of what I am doing is using the razor tool, tweaking the speed duration, occasional reversing or scaling the clips. It is getting frustrating though having to render everytime I make a small adjustment to a clip, say I take a 4 second clips duration from 200% to 150% so its now only 3 seconds long, I then have to render it to preview the change and this is taking aprox 2 mins per 1 second of footage.

Im on a pretty robust machine and using the exact same footage in After Effects I can do a RAM preview in a matter of seconds with twice as many variables effecting the footage. Why might Premiere be taking so long? for video editing software its making editing very difficult?

Any tips to how I can speed this up, Ive tried subclips, nesting, different formats etc… but its still tedious to work with. Is this normal?

Well I pressed enter and in the time it took to pre-render I had rebuilt the entire scene in AE and rendered it out. Other than a few tools(that with marginally longer time you can do in AE) Im struggling to see what use Premiere is if it takes so long to preview.
