i have a still shot where some people are standing. in the background are some grass and reeds.

what can i do to make those grass reeds sway like some light air is blowing.

is displace is the answer. i tried it but not with much help. can u explain in detail how can achieve this effect.

similarly i would like to do in another image with some calm sea waves in the background. i would also like these waves to move too.

You will need to duplicate the layer, mask the top layer to reveal the static portions (people standing still, etc.) and then use an animated displacement map (or other effect like bulges or ripples) on the duplicated layer below.

Also if you use displacement map be sure to precomp the “Map” Layer,
and then feed tis channel to the grass layer with the disp map effect.

    Feed me weird things..

    cheers
