  • How to set up FCP 5.1 for QuickTime PhotoJPG HD editing?

I use my LumixTZ5 camera to film clips in photoJPG 1280×720 30fps QuickTime .mov container. I use the material in live video mixes and the programm uses this codec as native. I am very happy with the quality and ease of use of this camera.
When I need to edit material in FCP5.1 on my Macbook Pro I set up the sequence the best I know and everything seems to be OK. So I just copy the clips from camera and import these to FCP. But when I apply even a simple transition it needs rendering to preview. This can not be normal on Macbook Pro (2.4ghz CoreDuo 4gb RAM OS X 10.5). I have good experience with DV editing in the past and even with my Powerbook G4 867mhz transitions did not need to render.
Could somebody walk me through the setup FCP for this non standard set, because I think that the problem is in the settings?

It’s not a problem with the settings.

Apple has optimized FCP to use specific codecs for editing, and at that size, Photojpeg isn’t one of them. You’ll get nothing that’s RT. If you upgraded to FCP 6, you could drop this into a pro-res timeline, and it’d playback just fine/give you RT effects.
