[Pawel Gardynik] “we’d like to use simple 2-channel versions of it just for the editing and replace them with 5-channel clips afterwards.”
Don’t. Sync up the second-system audio to your clips now, and edit with all 5 channels.
[Pawel Gardynik] “As far as I know it’s common strategy to avoid too many audio tracks during editing process.”
It is? News to me. When I have second system I sync it up, and use every single bit of it in the editing process. It is a necessity. When I want to overlap dialog between characters, or remove overlapping dialog it is pretty vital to have the separate audio tracks. I can’t imagine editing without all the audio.
[Pawel Gardynik] “Both 2- and 5-channel WAVs have the same timecode of course. “
EXACTLY the same? Well, then the audio mixer might be able to do an audio conform. But really, it is best for the editor to have all the audio, this way you can perform the needed audio edits. Yes, the picture editor does a lot of audio editing. I don’t know who you were talking to who told you different. I might have 2-4 tracks of video, and between 8 and 24 tracks of audio.
[Pawel Gardynik] “In FCP 6, is it posible to sync them automatically in timeline? “
There is no magic replace button. You would have to manually replace each and every clip’s audio. Or export an EDL and then the audio guys would import that and do an audio conform. But talk to them beforehand about the logistics around that. I only did that once, and it made audio editing go longer than it should have.\
