  • How to record real time keyframes to sync audio beats?

Posted by Jack Chute on January 8, 2012 at 1:35 pm

I’m trying to think of a way to hit a keyboard key in real time which playing audio back in ram preview and have After Effects record the keyboard hits as a key frame.

I’ve seen its possible to hit * on the num pad to record a marker but I can’t see anyway of making that maker act as a key frame.

Does anyone have any ideas to be able to record audio rhythms and beats through hitting the keyboard whilst your playing the audio back?

Think bass drum kicks, hi-hats and snare beats. I want to break these up and have elements reacting to the keyframes as I manually pick them out in playback. Say if I had a circle and every time the bass drum kicked, I would assign the recorded keyframe to affect its size etc.

I’ve tried trapcode Sound Keys but it doesn’t do so well in picking out specific areas of the sound frequency. It tends to get muddled.

    Thanks for any help!
