How to properly pre render?
Posted by Edward Calabig on January 22, 2008 at 1:09 amMy AE keeps crashing whenever I try and render the whole thing. I’ve been told to try and pre-render but every time I try and pre-render one of my pre-comps, it ends up pre-rendering the whole movie.
How do I only pre-render certain portions? Thanks.

January 22, 2008 at 3:55 pmyou should be able to just open the pre-comp fromt he project window, then choose composition>pre-render.
after rendering, the footage (by default) will be imported and replace the pre-comp that it was rendered from in any comps that use it.

it doesn’t out, say 10 seconds, then another 10 seconds, etc…
but, say you have a comp that has a few nested comps (pre-comps) or several layers that could be pre-comp’ed, and say those pre-comps have several effects that are taking a lot of time to render. you can choose to pre-render those, allowing you to more easily work with the main comp and render it faster and with less resources (ram cache, disk cache, image buffer, etc.). after pre-rendering, ae will automaiitcally import the render and replace the pre-comps with the footage in any comps that had that pre-comp nested…
it can be a very effect way to work as parts of you project become more solidified… and if you did need to change something, the original pre-comps are still there, so you can rework them and re-render them using the same name, then select the old footage in the project window and choose file>reload footage.

August 19, 2009 at 6:33 pmHey Kevin – Brent Ayres here… how’s it going. I was having some issues rendering out a clip and getting an error message. I looked up the issue here and low and behold your face popped up! I pre comped some things and pre-rendered and now no error messages. Thanks!
Hope you and the family are doing well. I hear that the AM news is expanding, so I’m sure you’re busy with that…
