  • how to properly bring in an AVCHD file into AE4 Master?

Posted by Joe Daniels on July 23, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I bought a new camcorder that exports AVCHD (.mts) files. Can this file be brought into After Effects CS4 Master? If so, what is the proper way to bring this file in? What do I select? Is there a trick? I did a test, I dropped the file into the comp, put it on the timeline, did my edits…exported and the finished clip looked bad! I exported as an uncompressed avi.(which normally with my other clips this works fine, just new to the AVCHD (.mts) stuff!

So what am I missing here? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Dave,

Thanks for the info. Loved the “stock” answer lol! Another question for you, now could this .mts footage be brought in directly to Premiere pro first, edited, etc. saved out as an avi then edited in After Effects to add some finishing touches? I keep hearing, reading that these files can be brought directly into CS4 Premiere, just not too sure how to exactly do it. NOOB! Meaning that is there certain things I need to check/set, yadda yadda!

OR if I want to just bring directly into After Effects, what would be a good converter to use to convert this .mts file without losing quality?

    Mr. LaRonde,

I recently transferred the AVCHD folder from a sony HD cam to my Mac.
How do I bring the MTS files directly into Final Cut Pro (I have vs. 6). I tried Log and Transfer, and didn’t work… Any ideas ? Thank you for your time!!
