  • How to monitor Interlaced HD

After years of joy with my SD Sony PVM monitor, I’m starting to do more HD work, specifically 1080i. A lot of this is still shot and finished interlaced. My work is mostly 3D animations composited into live action. So I really need to see my work on a display that can show how the fields are playing back.

I’ve always thought that only CRT’s can really display interlaced motion. But now I’ve heard about a JVC LCD display that claims to offer a simulation of interlacing. The display is called the JVC DT-V20L1DU. There’s also a 24″ which displays native 1080i. The price looks very good for its spec. HD/SD SDI is included which I see as a big help.

Anyone have any opinions/experience with this?

    Thanks,

    Will

Take a look at the Matrox MXO and a 23″ Cinema Display… I have one of these setups and it works great with 1080i…

Course it takes up one of the two displays if you only have one display card… but it’s inexpensive.

I’d be looking at the Panasonic displays too FWIW.

Thanks Jerry. Can you actually ‘see’ the field order with the Matrox option? I deal with so many different field orders I need to see things interlaced to make sure I’ve got it right.

    Thanks,
