How to make this effect in C4D?

I guess where you render the DOF would depend on if you’re wanting to create an animation, or just still images.

If just a still, render DOF in C4D, if animation, do a DOF pass and take it into AE for faster rendering and tweaking of the DOF.

What I would do is use C4D and create a material with a paper look like what I did here: https://vimeo.com/90194069

I’m not a V-Ray user, but I’m sure you can create a paper looking material for V-Ray.
