How to make FX color independent of it’s background?
Hey Guys!
So I did this effect below which I love very much:
That effect as you can see is in the black background, it is in ADD MODE.
Now the problem I am having is that if I put that mode in a background, that is lighter than black, the color will change completely, my question is how can I maintain this color making it independent of it’s background? Because look how it looks in a brighter BG:
If I take the ADD out of the effects now I have another problem, look how dull the colors look:
Lastly, that FX is composed by 2 Fractals, one in the Front, with a mask to show the “Deck Content” and another Fractal in the Back, then 3 Layers of layers of Particles done in Particular.
Overall, I just want to maintain the same blue FX of the black background in a much brighter background, does that make sense?

Hey Dave! Thanks for taking time to answer my question!
Do you think maybe I can reach something similar through Levels/Curves? Or Rotoscoping is the only way here?
I just want to maintain it’s color just like it was in the black background!

You can use an Unmult effect (there are free versions from Red Giant Software and Mekajiki) to remove the black background.

The first thing I’d do is to change the blend mode to Normal and add a curves adjustment on the layer(s) that need the color boost. If curves alone seems too tricky, increasing saturation first might get you closer.
