  • How to make bold text even bolder?

Motion 4: I’m using Lucida Grande text, Bold Typeface, for a sentence but the client wants to make 3 words stand out even more by being bolder than the rest of the already-bold text.

I’ve looked at increasing the size by a point but that just makes the text bigger, not bolder.

I’ve tried Outline (in Text>Style>Outline), but at 0 there is no change; and at 1 there is a massive change in making the text bolder; but it won’t allow incremental increases (like 0.2), so it doesn’t seem to work.

Drop Shadow doesn’t work to apply “boldness” evenly around each letter.

    Any thoughts?

UPDATE: My annoying but talented side-kick just said to duplicate the text and add a second (or even third) layer on top of the words that need extra boldness, and it works. I’m leaving this post up in case anyone hits this issue in the future…

What exactly do you mean by bolder: bigger fatter text?

There is always the option of using the bezier tool and drawing!

Try using the transform Glyph and just make those words bigger/different colour/ font etc etc… tens to work for me

Thanks AJ, I’m sure that would work too, although it does sound like a lot of work [cold shivers thinking of rotoscoping]! Duplicating the text layer did the job in this instance…

Thanks Stuart, I hadn’t thought of that- I’ll check it out.
