  • How to make After Effects Text presets your own and save them for use laterin SD, HD etc?

Posted by Deleted User on January 7, 2007 at 7:55 pm

    Hello,

I want to make an After Effects Text preset animation. As I am making some cinematic action movie titles. Like quick text flys in, then slowly scales down and fades out etc.

What i want to do is make these text animations then save them somehow, like the After Effects Animate in and Out pre-sets where you can browse them and see the text animation in action.

Does anyone know the steps so I can create the text animations and save them, but most important do it in such as was the text preset will scale and work for HD, SD projects as well. So each pre-set i create will be like the After Effects ones where it will scale etc occordingle to the project resolution.

    Thanks,

    Leo

Those presets are no different than the normal way of saving FX presets in After Effects. They will save your effect parameters and keyframes. I’m not in front of AE right now, but it’s right there in the menus something to the effect of ‘svae animation preset’. Check your manual for details as it can explain it the best.

    Hello Chris,

Yes I managed to do this, but when I saved them into the Text foolder, Animate In, IU do not see the sample text with the keyframe efects.

Also when I then double click I am then getting a grey image with the animation on it. So I do not think I am settng up the text template correctly and saving the effct properly to then re-use this with-in my further project compositions into Adobe After Effects pro.

    Thanks,

    Leo

There are no tools to see the previews
Blame Adobe, the only ones you can see an interactive preview in are done by Adobe.
They may provide tools for creating previews in an SDK for Adobe 3rd party content/plugin creators.

Previews can be manually added to presets using some tricks, but oh-ficially this is still Adobe’s domain. AE does not create them itself. Maybe in the next version.

The previews are animated GIFs or JPG stills. You can manually insert them using a Hex-Editor and some copy&paste. There is also an undocumented JSX command that is supposed to do this, if I recall correctly, but it’s not official, so it may damage your presets. Also you of course have to create the GIFs and JPGs first to be able to use them.

    Hello,

Yes that makes sense now os some presets have the image of the car and image distrotions applied etc. I’ll get my animations then save the preset and see how I go along with them as I have a text animation save the presets then apply the presets again I just get a grey box with the animation I made movements if it scales down etc.

What I want is to type my text in the center, then have the scale keyframes aimated with opacting, so the text flys in staggered then slowly zooms out and fades opacity to 0. I want to use this preset in SD and HD compositions but every time I use it to be in the center of the screen on these different aspect ratios.

But it seems when I save they are being offset depending on the frame sizes. Are there any controls I have to set so each time I use the preset it will be center is no matter what aspect ratio I use?

I am trying to re-create this film text in an Inconvient Truth.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUiP6dqPynE

    Says Sundance… etc.

I animated frame 1 and 2 to be hold keyframes to give it that jumpy feel as it flys onto the screen. Then animated the zoomm in or out depsnding if the text is coming towards the srceen or away from it then applied the fade.

I need to save thes to re-use on varius aspect ratios but they get offset then I only see a grey box. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Leo
