How to Make a Star Wars Credit Roll in Vegas Pro 8
Posted by Eric Kirk on November 27, 2007 at 1:38 amHello,
I hope someone can answer this. I am trying to create that familiar star wars style credit roll in sony vegas pro 8.
Does anyone know how? Seems the credit roll options are limited.
Appreciate your help.

November 28, 2007 at 12:27 amHey Thanks. I checked that out and there were a couple samples that didn’t quite cut it but no tutorial on that.
Unless you know a direct link but I searched well and only found a light sabre tutorial for Vegas 3.0.
I have Vegas Pro 8.
And just to further explain what I am looking for is something similar to the Star Wars roll but ideally, what I am trying to do is have a text roll that comes in from lower right and gently goes up to upper left with that effect that it is laying down like star wars.
So, it doesn’t necessarily need the words to get real small on the exit.
If anyone can help further, thanks ahead.

November 30, 2007 at 1:11 amHello,
Ok, just got around to trying your method. There are probably things you say that I am just missing some steps on but I have to start right at the beginning. I will just copy your original and add my questions within:Add a text generated media to the timeline [Should I choose the deafault? there are several choices] . Enter text as needed and set it to scroll [I don’t see a way to set it to scroll]. Now turn on “3d track motion” [Where do I find track motion?] on that track and adjust the angle of the text by changing the orientation of on the “X” axis [I think I will get this once I get the previous stuff]. A -45 to -55 setting range should work pretty well.
Thanks and appreciate your help.

November 30, 2007 at 1:26 amLet me adjust my earlier response. I think I figured out most except there is not option that I have found on how to make it scroll.
Thanks,

Go to the “Positioning” tab. On the first keyframe, move it off the BOTTOM of the screen. Now add a keyframe at the end of the dialog timeline and move it off the TOP of the screen. Now it will scroll. Vol 2 #2 of my newsletters would be a good issue to read.

December 28, 2007 at 11:53 pmI’m still working to perfect the text crawl, because there is NO tutorial yet that can replicate the original effect. What you usually get is a poor approximation, in my opinion. Thus far, Sony Vegas seems to be the WORST application for this particular effect, because it does not properly support elements that are larger than the frame (there is no true panning geometry).
I’ve tried both a text box and an image of the text. In both approaches, Vegas insists on either resizing, re-scaling or clipping the crawl text *as if* it were being viewed entirely in a 720×480 window.
The bottom line is that its not possible to maintain clear typography AND correct perspective within the same event. Pay close attention to all these SW crawl tutorials and you will see a “slit” effect.
