    i brought a precomp that has a bunch of lights into my comp and expected the lights (or at rather the effect the lights had on the precomp) to carry through when i hit the collapse transformations button. but no workey. is there a way to make this happen?

    Ensure that the 3D switch for the precomp is on.

    Argh! Forget about my previous post. Wha tyou can do is try not to click on the Collapse Transform switch. If that is not possible, then you can always copy the light layers in the precomp and paste it into the higher level composition.
    Thereafter, you will want to switch the ‘original’ lights so that AE doesn’t calculate it twice.
