  • How to make 5D 24p footage show up as 24p in FCP

I set my sequence presets to ProRes 422 1080/24p and when I make a new sequence and then import my video, the setting tab under the sequence has quite a limited drop down menu for presets… and it shows 1080 24i instead. How can I be sure that my footage in a sequence is 24p? Thanks!

    Mark II 5D footage is 23.976 if you shoot in 1920 x 1080 24fps.

Yes, I meant that. The editing timebase says 23.98, but the interlaced remains fixed

So what’s a big deal? Ingest clips through L&T or otherwise, drag and drop them on time line. FCP asks to match sequence to clip, you say yes. That’s it. You have ProRes sequence that matches your Canon 5D clips. If you open sequence settings you’ll discover codec (Prores) and 23,976 fps (if you shot in 24 fps mode).

Make sure the footage is checked as “NONE” on the Browser, then drop a clip in ANY sequence and let FC conform the sequence to the footage.
