How to know the value of your work?
Hi,
I begin the post-production business and it was one of my first contract.
So, I did a contract with a company to make 6 videos tutorials (how to use their website and other features) in french and 6 in English.
The video are between 5-12 minutes each.
Pre-production:
-write all the text
-made the storyboard
-remade a logo (construction worker)
-the logo can even be animated in adobe character animatorProduction:
-screen filmingPost-production:
-video editing
-text animation
-create and organize their YouTube account
-create a YouTube interactive menu to choose chapterAt first, all this work (except the logo remake) was for 4000$ but soon the work was overwhelming and we decide to save time and pay someone else to translate, and now when all the work is done, the boss want to charge me for the translate.
So what should I do is it fair? is it not?
Feedback from professional would help me greatly for this situation and future project.
P.S. sorry for my bad English, french is my first language.

Your first contract was to deliver the films for a set price.
Your client then took work from you to reduce your workload and have someone else complete the translations.
I can see why they might feel their invoice should be reduced or why you should pay for the translations but unless this is in the contract then you are not obliged to pay or reduce your fee.
I would suggest that if you want to maintain a relationship and work with this client that you should negotiate a compromise – what about offering a credit note for future work to the value of the translations?
