  • How to keep caputre window open in FCP while playing out to external video monitor

Posted by Themedialounge on August 19, 2005 at 3:00 am

Has anyone found a way to monitor the playback of clips on an external video monitor without first having to close the log and capture window in FCP?
I need almost instantaneous playback and capture and the delay of the log and capture opening and closing at the moment is killing me.
I’m only capturing and outputting composite video.

I’m running FCP 5.02 with latest BMD drivers.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    HI

I’m afraid there is no way to
do what you want to do.

why do you need to see the clips
    you’ve captured straight away ?
    don’t you trust your system
    to capture the right ones??

    Thanks for your response Olivier,

I capture and playback takes on television commercials and the director needs to see the previous take asap.
Time is money with up to 30 crew standing around waiting to see if the last take was good enough before moving on to the next.
Also, I can be playing back a tape or editing something together and all of a sudden the film camera will start to roll with no warning; I then need to start capturing instantaneously to make sure I don’t miss any of the action.

Can you and Powermedia offer any other solutions that would work for me?

    Cheers

    Damon
