how to get the best quality on P2 card
Hi
I am going to rent HVX-200 or AG-HPX500
now i love the quality of Digital Betacam and basically i want to get the same quality with the use of the P2 card so that i will not need to work with Digital Betacam tapes.
but as i have understand if i will work in any format that is above DV then i always have a problme that i need to downconvert the material to standard DEF as my finel product is always a standard DVD
so i have no use of the High DEF as i will not make any High DEF DVD
and from forum on the net i can only see that people complain that the material on the Edit bay looks wonderful but when you send it to a DVD the quality is not as good as if you have send a Digital Betacam material , as in DV and in Digital Betacam you don’t have any problems to change the frame size or any setting as you only need to change it to mpeg2 and this is the only compression yoy do.
so my question what format do i choose from to get the best quality and not to have any problems with the change to mpge2 i work with Avid Media Composer 3.1
and that sad if i do need to work with High DEF who do i work in a way that will not give me any problems to go to mpeg2 and still have the same good quality as the master material -

Shoot DVCPRO 50. That is standard def and is digibeta quality.

Or shoot HD anyway. It doesn’t take up that much more space on P2 and it’s as easily edited as DVCPRO50 in FCP. And you’ll end up with a sharper final SD DVD when coming from an SD source. There’s not a major hollywood movie today shot in SD but all end up as SD DVDs.

but may i also ask you sens i an new to p2 and the HVX200
how do i set it up in this camera ?
as in the user’s manual there are info that i can found how to set it up to DVCPRO50
so if you can help me with that it will be best
(I work in PAL)also has any one try to use this card as alternative to P2 card

as it is slow still if not to use it as p2 maybe as a way to backup the files to this card as it very cheap.

That reader won’t work at all in the camera as a P2 alternative, but perhaps as an offloader. All I can say is read the manual, practice and grab some training if you need it. For example:

YOu say you have users manual, start there. Use that. This site is for tech support, not step by step setup instructions.
