How to get m2ts on Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8
Hey guys, Newbies here… we are just starting productions for our church to go on the local TV station. We are using .avi files. We have a Canon Vixia HV30 and are using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8. My pastor just called and we are being picked up by satilite. Now they are wanting me to use .m2ts. But I can’t find that extension when I go to render. Is there a plug in for that or do I have to upgrade to Pro?

You need to have at least Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to work with HD and the Canon Vixia HV30 is HDV which are .m2t files so I’m not sure where the AVI files are coming from unless you are shooting in DV mode with an HDV camera.
The .m2ts files are AVCHD. I know Vegas Pro 8 can render this and I’m pretty sure the latest Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 can but I don’t know if VMSP 8 can. Look for a render type Sony AVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc). If you don’t have that they your version cannot output .m2ts files. I would download the trial of VMSP 9 to make sure it has that before you upgrade.

m2ts files are the native proprietory file format for SONY products. You cannot convert to it, you must record on it as a raw format from a SONY camera. As far as I know, I do not think that there is any way to convert to it, you may only record original as this file.
