  • How to get Free Transform to NOT distort in perspective?

Hello, I am trying to distort art in a rectangle into a trapezoid (so it can be mapped onto something else).

I would like to compress each horizontal “slice”, but have the content stay at the same vertical place.

However, I cannot figure out how to do this. Per the images below, when I use the “distort freely” transform action (ie, CMD+Click) – it moves the content “up’ (or “back” in the perspective) which doesn’t work for me (see images attached – black horizontal line for reference).

I can use the warp tool (third image) to achieve sort of the effect I am after, but this requires me to guess where these splines go, which is not accurate and I don’t like. Please help!

Seems you are using a Mac computer since you mentioned the CMD key, I have used Free Transform a lot and you can freely play around with stretching the image to your liking if you press Ctrl and hold it while moving the mouse to stretch it in all 8 points on the middle and corners of the image outside to adjust it to your liking. In Mac, it should translate from holding ctrl to CMD. If you can show me a video on how its behaving on your end, I can have an even better idea on whats going on. Hope to hear from you soon!

Here is a link I found for more information just incase: https://www.photoshopessentials.com/basics/transform-and-warp-images-with-free-transform-in-photoshop-cc-2019/
