How to get footage back to normal after zoom in affected entire timeline. SOS

You have to insert keyframes to set the out boundaries you want the effected video. YOu should be able to “highlight” clips in timeline then right click and change under settings. If you want delete that timeline and re-import your clips into it and make sure you use keyframes.

Is that the color red you want to use?

Try selecting all the clips at once that are zoomed in then right or control click on one of the selected clips. In the pop-up menu select “remove attributes.” Make sure “Basic Motion” is checked and then click OK. Try that and post back with the results. If that doesn’t make the changes ‘stick’ then there may be a problem with FCP’s preference files whcih is just a guess at this point.

When I tried going back to the original footage in the bin, it seemed that that footage was also affected and cropped. Is there any way to just get everything back to normal without using keyframes?

If your source clips have been changed then drag them into the viewer window one by one. Click on the Motion tab. You’ll see a red X in the upper middle of the window. This is the reset button for that particualr clip. Click on it and that should get rid of all your changes. You’ll need to do that for each source clip.

fix this by going to the % pulldown menu top of both viewer and canvas and setting to “Fit to Window”
also learn this: SHIFT + Z
that’s the keyboard shortcut for fit to window.

to do a proper zoom on an image,
turn on IMAGE & WIRE FRAME in the “view” menu in the CANVAS (to the right of the % menu)
select your clip in the timeline,
now you’ll see a wireframe in the canvas.
you need to grab a corner of the blue border and pull on that to increase scale.

TIP: you may have to zoom the canvas out to be able to grab the blue border. (Select Canvas, Apple minus)

Well, I think the answer to your pop quiz is select canvas Apple +

I know I should “read the freaking manual,” but when I get stuck like this it’s hard for me to find what I need there. I see that in my view menu, “window and wire fame” is checked off. How do you uncheck it. I’ve tried just clicking on it, and using Apple, shift, and contol click. Nothing works. Just when I think I’m getting this down, I get stumped on something that’s probably obvious to other people. I appreciate the help in getting my project back on track.
