  • How to get Flare with alpha channel?

I want to use a flare as a transition for videos that i can import into AVID.

I make a flare by making a BLACK solid first and then applying the flare effect to it. Then i keyframe the brightness up and then back down to get my desired effect.

but, when i import my exported clip into avid, it comes in with the black solid and no alpha channel. when the flare transition occurs, it shows a flare on a black background. not what i want.

does anyone know how i can keyframe a flare and export it with an alpha channel? so then when i import into avid and put it over a transition point of 2 videos. the flare is like a SCREEN or ADD TRANSFER MODE over the videos?

it also brings a nother question. in AE the only way i know to add a flare transition in AE is to apply a flare effect to a black solid and then use the SCREEN or ADD transfer mode (forgot which) so it blends well with my composition. this sometimes makes my comp a little washed out. anyone know how i can do it in AE as well? i think there is a keying effect i can use to get rid of the black or smething???
