How to fix frame slip in original footage

What is your source material from ?

MediaInfo on your original clip ?

Original footage was shot 30 years ago on VHS and then edited to a 3/4 master. That tape was then dubbed to DVD and imported into Vegas.

I was wrong, the issue happens for about 5 frames and you can see the frame move up as in a vertical scroll problem.

If there’s a better solution, I’d love to hear about it. What I’ve done is to simply take a still image of the footage just before the problem and replace the defective video with that still. You can still see an anomoly during playback, but it’s less distracting than the original problem.

Are the black bars visible on the DVD version ? If so, there is not much you can do about it short of editing out the affected frames.

Is that the case ?

That is the case. So the solution I have in place is what I’ll need to live with.

Separate/(sort of) question.

Are there are native/addins to Sony Vegas Pro that can actually enhance old, crappy footage?

I’m thinking (and I know it’s not apples to apples) of what I can do with digital photography enhancement today.

I would assume that with original VHS footage it’s garbage in – garbage out, but on the off chance you know of something that breaks that rule, I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tool looks like it does a fantastic job of removing noise.

My problem is that there’s really not a lot of noise, it’s just low resolution that is now third generation.

Well, unless you can spare mega gazillion dollars on very expensive professional software, with trained tech/operator, the best you can hope for when you have multi generation footage is to clean out the noise.
