  • How to fade out a composited chroma key image

Hi all – first post to this forum and I did try searching around for the answer in other threads…

I have two video tracks on my timeline 1) Presenter shot against a green screen, with chromakey effect applied to the whole track; 2) Photo of cityscape as a background. Track 2 is a child of track 1.

I simply want to fade out the composited image evenly as if it were one event, but by applying a fade to black transition of equal duration to the end of both tracks, the second track bleeds through before they both disappear.

I’m probably just showing my ignorance of proper compositing, but can anyone put me right please? Is it anything to do with changing Parent Composite mode???

    Many thanks,
    Peter

If it’s just the background, it’ll fade to black when you insert an Event Fade at the corner. That’s all thats necessary.
Keep in mind that you don’t need to use Parent Compositing modes for simple keying; just putting the key on the upper track does it. Now…if you’re keying or creating other media beneath the plate/background image, then you might be using compositing modes.
