  • How to Extract Sprinklers and Spray from Outdoor Scene

Other than 8 point or 4 point garbage matte (only partially useful in my case as the talent moves around a lot during the segment), what is an elegant way to extract sprinklers and the related water spray from an outdoor scene shot on a golf course (either in FCP using a Filter or using another app such as Color)?

The scene I am referencing has about 8 sprinkler all doing there thing. To make it worse the talent does walk from side to side on the screen so garbage mattes are only partially useful. There are also other objects in the scene that are the substantially the same color as the water.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, simply add the “Stylize/Dry” filter to remove all traces of liquid water…

    😉

Seriously, dealing with something like that is a LOT of work. Mocha or Mokey would be appropriate tools for such a task… https://www.imagineersystems.com/

not cheap, but sometimes they go on sale…

This is really very simple and easy. You simply paint out each and every drop of water in each and every frame. 30 frames each second, 1800 each minute.

Or you can take Dave’s advice and reshoot.
