How to export subclips from Premiere as individual files into AE?
Hi, im going to make a music video with allot off effects, so i am going to rough cut and create subclips from all the footage i have in premiere, since its way more efficient to make edits there.
And then i want to export all the subclips i have created into after effects so that i can do the main edit there, i really want to avoid having to rough cut in After Effects.
What is the best way to do this? Or should i approach the editing process in a different way?
When i export sequences from PP to AE i also seem to have some loss in quality, how do i prevent this from happening?

Hi Tobias…
There are a few ways to do this….
1) Put all your trimmed clips into a sequence. Save the Project. Then in AE you can import that PPro Project/sequence as a comp.
or
2) Put all your trimmed clips into a sequence in PPro. Go to the timeline in Ppro, Select all (ctrl/cmd A), Copy. Switch to AE, Make a new comp (or proper resolution) and Paste. This will also place all trimmed clips into AE.
or
3) Put trimmed clips into a seqeunce in pPro. Right click an individual clip in the PPro timeline and choose “Replace with AE Comp”

Thanks for your respons Alex! i tried all three of your techniques.
The first tip seemed to work best to some extend, all the footage including subfolders and subclips where imported into AE with names and everything. But when i tried to drag the subclips into the timeline, the subclips where just the original clips that the subclips where created from. So instead off 20 subclips from the original clip, i had 20 duplicates of the entire original clip. Is there something im doing wrong here?
What i did was adding all the subclips i wanted to use in premiere, in to the timeline in one track, saving it, then went to AE and pressed file> import> adobe premiere project. And all the files where visible with their name in the project panel. Then dragged them into the timeline, where the subclips became their original full length clip. I also previewed the subclips in the preview window, which showed the same full length clip without in/out points.
The in/out points did not show any marked points in the project either.
The second tip you gave me, where i copied all the subclips from the timeline in premiere, and pasted them into the timeline in AE, showed only some of the clips and the clip names where their original title, not their new subclip title.
But the names arent that important, the most importan thing is that i have the edited subclips, and that worked, it was just that 4 out of 5 clips where missing.
The third tip you gave me, a notification popped up saying that i needed the premium production suite in order to use the dynamiclink manager.
I have tried installing the production premium all week without success, so this is why i had to find a way around the dynamiclink manager.

If you have installed Apps with Serials that are not from the Production Premium you are trying to install then you have a conflict and it won’t install. You need to Uninstall and Deactivate anything that you would be installing as part of Production Premium so it can be installed with the correct serial and then you’ll get the DynLink.

sorry I made an assumption.
making actual “subclips” for this is not actually necessary.
Simple marking of in and out in PPro should give you what you need in AE.
so:
1) mark in and out
2) Edit to timeline in PPro
3) use any of the methods I suggest to move to AE.(this will also give you handles in AE incase you need to trim a bit.

I have tried that, and it worked in some way, but my problem is that the original files im working with contains several scenes within. So what i am trying to do is separate every scene and create subclips, but it doesnt seem like i can do that, i found a work around thats a little complex for 200 subclips, but maybe that can explain better what the problem is.
The way i can keep the in/out points from PP to AE, is to create one sequence for every subclip i have in PP, then when i import the sequence from the project file into AE, it keeps the in/out points and my problem is kind of solved.
But when i add several subclips into the timeline, and import the sequence into AE, i just get one big track containing all the subclips.
The workaround for that would be to duplicate 200 sequences and drag the handles to the correct in/out points.Do you have any idea of how i can just export each subclips from PP as individual files, so i then can import them into AE without doing everything twice?

Finally!
With help from a video tutorial on lynda.com i found the trick to make after effects remember what in/out points i had made in premiere.
What i did was: in premiere i pasted all my subclips into the timeline, then copied them in the timeline with cmd/ctrl+c and pasted them into the composition panel. All the in/out points where remembered and i have never been so happy.
