  • How to export highest quality video from FCP? .mov???

Posted by Rudy Shalamar on August 9, 2009 at 9:32 pm

How do you export a video from final cut keeping the highest possible quality. Is an .mov the highest? I thought .mov’s are compressed to some extent (similar to how apple’s “lossless” audio is not truly lossless}.

    What is the industry standard?

    Thank you!

What is the point of this question?Everything is compressed. Converting reality to digital information is by definition compression. Let’s not talk about hypotheticals. What exactly are you trying to do? There is no industry standard unless you define exactly what the industry is and where it is.

    All the best,

.mov just signifies a Quicktime Movie. It can be any codec, any quality that is installed on the FCP machine, literally hundreds of combinations.

The absolute highest quality you can export to my knowledge is 4:4:4 HD.

[walter biscardi] “The absolute highest quality you can export to my knowledge is 4:4:4 HD.”

But of course it never really gets any better than the quality of the original video. So, in most cases, exporting QT Movie at current settings is as good as it’s gonna get.

Sure. But the question was how to export the highest quality video. That’s the highest quality video I know of that you can export.

That one is kinda like the question I see on Indie Film & Documentary, “what’s the best camera for shooting a documentary?” I like to say that IMAX is just about as good as it gets.

That would be the absolute best.

Tom Wolsky, you’re a dick. Make some basic assumptions and the question is perfectly clear.
